Seton Hall’s ‘Mamu’ shares Big East Player of the Year honors in historic 3-way split
Updated Mar 10, 2021;
When Sandro Mamukelashvili first arrived at Seton Hall as a freshman, he dreamed of one day being considered the league’s best player.
“Coming in as a freshman, I used to look at the top players and I said to myself, ‘One day I will be that top player that everybody talks about, who everybody puts on the scouting report,’” he said on a recent Zoom call in response to a question from NJ Advance Media.
Now “Mamu” has reached one of his dreams.
Beloved and sometimes controversial Savannah pediatrician Dr. Ramon Ramos died Friday at Memorial Health University Medical Center. A cause of death was not released. He was 70.
Ramos was born in Manhattan and obtained his medical degree from Escuela Medicina San Juan in Puerto Rico in 1980. After a residency, internship and a fellowship in Jacksonville and Augusta, he came to Savannah for fellowships at Memorial. Those were followed by a two-year stint in private practice in Puerto Rico after which he returned to Savannah in 1991to open a private practice here. He attracted legions of devoted families.
Parents like Megan Burns said Ramos, who was the father of seven, treated his patients as if they were his own.
While 2020 was a rollercoaster of a ride for bantamweight Danny Sabatello, he chooses to look at the positives that came from the year.
The fact that Sabatello was able to stay busy in training and also get in a couple of fights whereas others might not have been able to is a big positive in his book.
“I had a good year considering what’s going on in the world with the pandemic and everything,” Sabatello told MMAWeekly.com. “I trained really hard and tried to line up as many fights as I could.
“Toward the end of the year I got on Dana White’s Contender Series, unfortunately I didn’t get a contract, but all in all it was a successful 2020.”
