when the problem with it is that the community around the university still seemingly is not safe. reporter: the university says efforts by campus police in making neighboring communities safer have been successful. and points to a steady drop in violent robberies over the past few years. statistics released publicly by the university also raise troubling questions. they reveal so far the african-american drivers have been cited more oftenly than white drivers. in response to the shooting, the university appointed dr. ramen angle to the vice president of safety and reform. i think we have an opportunity to do better right here right now but i think these are similar issues that across the country is facing right now. i hope we can be a leadership example for those other communities. so this department can be better? absolutely and we will. reporter: university also appointed directors of public
