The district reports 188 new cases, one death
Anantapur district on Sunday recorded the lowest COVID positivity rate in the second wave after 85 days with only 188 testing positive (2.51%) in the last 24 hours ending 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The previous low was recorded on April 2 this year at 0.95% when only 26 persons tested positive.
The positivity rate had touched 10.03% by April 14 when 294 cases registered.
The daily toll too came down in the district that registered one death during the period, taking the cumulative figure to 1,042.

KURNOOL: A sudden increase in deaths registered in May at the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) has confirmed the fears about the Covid-19’s devastating effect on the lives here. The number of deaths outnumbered the number of births registered during the month.
KMC data, shared with Deccan Chronicle, showed May alone recorded 1,139 deaths, the highest in the past 14 months. During the month, there were 1078 births.

KURNOOL: A report in
Deccan Chronicle on the chaotic conditions prevalent at vaccination centres in Kurnool has awakened the district administration, which has now decided to conduct vaccination programs only at spacious buildings like function halls and college premises.
Consequently, Primary and Urban Health Centers will not dispense Covid vaccination to the public, said district collector G Veera Pandian.
One new generation unit, another defunct plant to be operational soon
The number of COVID-19 patients needing oxygen support is slowly increasing in Kurnool and Anantapur districts but the supply position is comfortable in both districts with Anantapur even inching closer to self-sufficiency.
Despite a steep rise in the number of positive cases there are only 969 patients consuming oxygen as of Friday evening – 149 patients in Intensive Care Units and 820 in oxygen-supported beds in all hospitals put together. According to the Health Department’s report, another 106 ICU and 939 oxygen-supported beds were vacant.
The government and private hospitals put together have a liquid oxygen storage capacity of 53 kilo litres in Anantapur district in addition to 2,000 medical bulk cylinders (7.1 cu.m.), but the consumption in the district has been only a little above 50% of its capacity.
