Anthem winery wins Napa County approvals in winery growth battle

After a long wine country growth battle, Anthem winery near Mount Veeder convinced Napa County that its controversial expansion plan is a good one. “I see this as something that is fulfilling my objectives and the vision that I see for the Mount Veeder appellation,” county Board of Supervisors Chair Alfredo Pedroza said. After a five-hour hearing Tuesday, the county Board of Supervisors favored upholding a Planning Commission decision that approved Anthem additions. It tentatively voted to deny an appeal by several rural neighbors. Supervisor Diane Dillon was the lone dissenter. She cited concerns over groundwater supplies, wildfire danger to winery visitors and the number of exceptions to county road rules needed for a new Dry Creek Road entrance.

Napa County s rainy season off to a dismal start

Grape grower Steve Moulds can see what a paltry rain season this has been by looking at the small reservoir he uses to irrigate his vineyard along Dry Creek Road. “Usually, the reservoir is filled by the end of December,” Moulds said on Wednesday morning. “At this point it’s only about 10% to 15% full. This is the most concern I’ve ever had for it.” A major question for Napa County winter weather watchers is when the heavens are once again going to open up and pour down rain. To be certain, the county this rain season has seen an inch here and two-tenths of an inch there. But it hasn’t seen huge storms, the types that make creeks roar and reservoirs fill by delivering several inches of rain in a few days.

Napa to fix sections of Soscol, Trower avenues, other streets during 2021-22 [Napa Valley Register, Calif.] Dec. 18 Three major streets and a busy intersection in the city of Napa are slated for improvements starting next summer, despite recent funding cuts in a pandemic-pinched budget. Napa is on track to refurbish parts of Soscol Avenue, Trower Avenue, Trancas Street and two streets in the Westwood neighborhood during the 2021-22 fiscal year, the city Public Works department told the City Council on Tuesday. Also on the city’s list of projects to be paid for with county sales-tax revenue is the replacement of traffic signals at Lincoln Avenue and Main Street, a hub between downtown and the commercial strips of Soscol and Jefferson Street.
