Douglas woman sentenced over £ 35,000 benefit fraud

Fri, 19 Feb 2021 A local woman was handed a suspended sentence for fraudulently claiming nearly £35,000 of benefits in the Isle of Man. Jessica Lynn Cracknell of Anagh Coar pleaded guilty to eight counts of making false representations in order to obtain benefits at Douglas courthouse on 4 December 2020. The 31-year-old admitted falsely claiming income support and employed person allowance on the Island between November 2017 and December 2019. The Douglas woman failed to declare she was being financially supported by her ex-partner from the outset of her claim and had received benefits totalling £34,848.61, to which she was not entitled. Ms Cracknell received a 12 month sentence at Douglas courthouse on 4 February 2021, which was suspended for 18 months and she was ordered to pay costs.

Tynwald approves licensing system to grow cannabis on IoM Tynwald has unanimously approved a licensing system for growing cannabis on the Isle of Man. Daphne Caine MHK Printed and digital download photos available A plan to allow a simple majority of MHKs to remove a sitting Chief Minister moved a step closer this week as most MHKs gave their backing. Daphne Caine’s Council of Ministers (Amendment) Bill 2020 cleared its second reading in the Keys, with only four members voting against. The Garff MHK said the amendment Bill is ’very simple’ and would ’address what I feel is a regrettable anomaly in our legislation for removing an administration that does not have the majority support amongst the House of Keys’. Mrs Caine added: ’Over the past 30 years, there has not been a single occasion where a vote of no confidence has been tabled against the Council of Ministers.
