Triplets It’s not that unusual for a cow to have twin calves, but triplets are extremely rare. Odds about one in 100,000. Now, the same ranch in southern Saskatchewan has beat those numbers, twice. The Saskatchewan ranch is home now to two brand new sets of triplets, born just a few days apart.
Ralph, Kelly and Matt Oberle’s cow-calf operation, just north of the Montana border, expects to have about 1,400 births in a typical calving season, but this season has seen a small uptick in numbers. The first set of triplets was born late last week. Grandfather Ralph Oberle says that first set was also the first triple-birth for the farm.

The chances of a cow giving birth to triplets is about one in 100,000. That doesn’t even take into account the odds of the triplets all being alive and healthy.
Oberle Farms in Saskatchewan got that lucky…TWICE! The first set of triplets was born on January 20th and the second set on the 27th. One of the owners Ralph Oberle, explained that the first set of triplets was the first time the farm ever had triplets born. “That had never happened on the farm. So, it’s a highlight of the farm,” Oberle said.
REGINA A Saskatchewan farm was shocked when one of its cows delivered a rare set of triplets last week. The surprise doubled this week, when another cow on the same farm delivered a second set of triplets. Kelly Oberle was prepared for twins when one of his cows went into labour last week, but he didn’t expect what happened next.
