Anna Hazare to launch indefinite fast against farm laws from tomorrow

Mumbai: Activist Anna Hazare has announced that he would be launching an indefinite hunger strike against the Union government s new farm laws on Saturday at his village Ralegaon Siddhi in Maharashtra. I have been demanding reforms in the agriculture sector, but the Centre doesn t seem to be taking right decisions, he said in a statement issued on Thursday. The Centre has no sensitivity left for farmers, which is why I am starting my indefinite fast at my village from January 30, he said.
Hazare, 83, also appealed his supporters not to flock to his village in Ahmednagar district in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Activist Anna Hazare has decided to withdraw his decision to launch an indefinite hunger strike against the Union government s new farm laws after a meeting with Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis on Friday. Anna Hazare has decided not to protest from tomorrow over various demands related to farmers, news agency ANI quoted Anna Hazare s Office as saying.

NEW DELHI: Social activist Anna Hazare is said to begin his protest over various demands related to farmers in Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra from January 30.
Further, the activist urged supporters to protest at their respective locations.
Earlier, the veteran social activist said that if farmers demands on issues concerning farmers are not met by the Union government by the end of January next year he will go for a hunger strike.
PUNE, Dec 28: Social activist Anna Hazare has threatened to go on a hunger strike if his demands on issues concerning farmers are not met by the Union government by the end of January next year, and said it would be his “last protest”.
Speaking to reporters in his Ralegaon Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra on Sunday, Hazare said had had been holding protests for cultivators since the last three years, but the Government has done nothing to resolve the issues.
“The Government is just giving empty promises due to which I do not have any trust left (in the government)…Let’s see, what action the Centre takes on my demands. They have sought time for a month, so I have given them time till January-end. If my demands are not met, I will resume my huger strike protest. This would be my last protest,” the 83-year-old said.
