Several school students in north Kashmir s Baramulla district prepared handmade rakhis as gratitude for the soldiers guarding the country s border in Jammu and Kashmir.
The festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on two days this year, August 30 and 31, due to uncertainty surrounding the most auspicious moment for tying the ceremonial rakhi. The confusion revolves around the concept of Bhadra Kaal, a period in which performing any auspicious rituals is discouraged by certain priests. However, temple priests claim that the occasion doesn t necessitate any specific puja, warranting celebration on August 30 as well.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of Sawan month. According to the Hindu calendar, this time Rakhi is on August 11. But due to the shadow of the Bhadra period on this day - an inauspicious time - some people have chosen to celebrate the Rakhi on August 12.
