Shopian Encounter Was The Longest Operation Of 2021
SRINAGAR: The three-day-long encounter in the Shopian village concluded with the killing of all two militants who were holed up. Five residential structures and two cowsheds were destroyed in the encounter, reports reaching from the village said.

The slain duo included a top Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant, whom police accused of having been involved in a number of incidents of sabotage in the area. He has been active since 2018, police said.
The encounter also witnessed the local youth engaged with the security grid in pitched battles while the gunfight was going on. The police and the paramilitary forces used tear smoke and pellets to manage the stone-throwing groups. Almost a dozen youth were injured in the police action.

Shopian encounter enters third day
Two terrorists, including one top Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorist Sajad Afghani, was killed during an ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir s Shopian on Monday. The killing of Afghani, instrumental in recruiting terrorists, was confirmed by DGP Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh. The encounter in Shopian began on Saturday and entered the third day today.Â
The other slain terrorist was identified as Lashkar affiliated Jahangir Ahmad Wani from Rakh Narapora.
A joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, the army s 34 RR and the CRPF on Saturday.
Police said during the search operation, as the presence of terrorists got ascertained they were given an opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which retaliated leading to an encounter.
Shopian Gunfight Enters Day Three; Firing Resumes
SRINAGAR: Gunfight between militants and the government forces that began on Saturday continued in Rawalpora area of Shopian on Monday as fresh firing exchanges started.
An official said that the firing has been resumed after a lull of several hours and the encounter is still going on.
Locals said that at least five houses were severely damaged in the fire and several youth were injured during clashes.
Earlier, Police had said that one militant was killed during the gunfight on Sunday.
A police spokesperson identified the slain militant as Jahangir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Rakh Narapora Shopian, affiliated with the proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Wani has been active since September 2020.
