Lucknow: The campaigning for the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh panchayat election, which will be held on April 15, ended on Tuesday (April 14). The eligible voters will be able to exercise their franchise from 7 am to 6 pm on the polling day.
The counting of votes of Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections will take place on May 2.
Notably, the police in Bhadohi district arrested two panchayat election candidates for distributing money among voters, and one former block chairman for threatening balloters, according to officials. Arrests were made on Monday night, the officials told PTI.

A Hindu woman was allegedly burnt alive by her family in Sant Kabir Nagar district in eastern Uttar Pradesh for being in a relationship with a Muslim man. Police arrested the victim’s father, brother and two other relatives, who hired a contract killer for the murder.
Police officials said the family members have confessed to the crime, and a hunt was on for the contract killer who was paid Rs 1.5 lakh to murder the 28-year-old woman, whose burnt body was discovered on February 4. The woman is believed to have been killed the previous night.

Sant Kabir Nagar : , Feb 16 (IANS) In yet another incident of honour killing, this time a woman in Sant Kabir Nagar was burnt alive by her family members over an inter-faith love affair.
The police have arrested the victim s father, brother, brother-in-law and one more person in this connection.
According to police, the family had hired a contract killer, Varun Tiwari, and paid him Rs 1.5 lakh to eliminate the woman over her relationship with a Muslim man.
A police official said, The victim s father Kailash Yadav, brother Ajit Yadav, brother-in-law Satya Prakash Yadav and one Sitaram Yadav were arrested on Sunday. A petrol container and motorcycle used in the crime have also been recovered by the police. A hunt is on to trace the contract killer.
