Mbarara City residents have set several demands to new city leaders, including increasing water supply, improving security and physical planning.
“The new leadership should gazette a day to save River Rwizi from degraders because it is being destroyed and very soon, we may not have water and that can stop investors,” Ms Jolly Kagira, a former councillor at Mbarara Municipal Council, said last week.
Ms Kagira said the new leaders, who were sworn in last week, should also shift the garbage dumping site from Kenkembo Village to another place since it has now been turned into a settlement area.

Sheila Nakabuye, 32, was pronounced dead by doctors at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital at around 8am.
According to friends and family members, the NBS TV s south western Uganda bureau chief gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday through a C-section at Cedus Clinic in Rwebikoona Mbarara where she had been admitted.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) secretary for mobilisation in Lyantonde District and party chairperson for Lyantonde Town Council, Emmanuel Atuhaire, has been killed in Mbarara City.
Atuhaire’s body was found dumped on a feeder road in Biharwe, a few kilometres off Mbarara –Masaka Road in Mbarara City on Saturday.
“Our colleague was murdered on his way from Mbarara. We have seen the body and confirmed that it is him. We are saddened by his death. He was a very courageous, kind person who wished every one well. We have missed a very resourceful person,” Mr Edward Miiro, his vice chairperson for mobilisation, said yesterday.
