Act maturely

Act maturely July 25, 2021 Although Pakistan is in deep crises – from the coronavirus outbreak to rising inflation and economic depression – our leaders are busy playing the same old blame game while campaigning for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections. The current circumstances, however, demanded that either the elections were postponed or campaign activities were suspended. What happened was that all political parties carried out rallies, risking the lives of people. Not one political leader ensured that party supporters were following SOPs. This happened at a time when the country is fighting against the deadliest variant of Covid-19 – the Delta variant. The leaders accuse each other of selling Kashmir and of not taking the issue seriously. The unfortunate truth is that no political party has ever done anything worthwhile to fight the Kashmir cause. Except for some energetic slogans, no party has ever taken a clear and strong stance on the issue. Our politicians ar

Water shortage

Water shortage July 14, 2021 Drought-like conditions in different parts of the city are dangerous for Kharif crops. If dry conditions persist, it will not be good for crops. Little to no rain is likely to result in an acute shortage of water, which will not be sufficient for drinking and irrigation purposes. This, once again, exposes the lack of planning of our leaders who failed to take necessary measures to build small and large dams to preserve water. Also, while we are so desperately hoping for rain, we cannot ignore the fact that even a short spell of heavy rains will cause floods because we don’t have reservoirs to store, and control the flow of, rainwater. We somehow believe that it is Nature’s responsibility to ensure that we receive just the right amount of rain at the right time. We, as a nation, are not going to move an inch to take steps to store rainwater. We haven’t done anything to construct small dams and reservoirs even though we know that initiating such p

Blame game

Blame game July 3, 2021 The National Assembly (NA) recently passed the PTI’s third federal budget. The leader of the opposition and other parliamentarians, however, didn’t attend this important session. The budget was eventually passed by 172 votes. After the budget was passed, the opposition parties continued with their old tactics of blame game and accusations. Government representatives rightly pointed that many opposition members were not even present in the assembly. I wonder why our politicians don’t realise that people are completely tired of and fed up with such useless arguments between the government and the opposition. Our leaders should sit together to come up with a plan for the betterment of the country.

Past mistakes

The past is not retrievable but provides good lessons to those who are interested in learning anything from it. It seems that our politicians are, surprisingly, more interested in repeating past.
