The us general manager of tiktok has said the chinese owned video sharing app is here for the long run, after President Donald Trump said he would ban it in the us. Vanessa pappas told tiktok users in a video statement that its staff were building the safest app, amid us concerns about data protection. Tiktok is mostly used to share short videos, usually about 15 seconds long, and it has grown rapidly in the last year, now boasting more than 800 million active monthly users worldwide. But it is owned by a chinese company, bytedance, and it is this last fact that concerns the us security forces. There is in fact a precedent for this us announcement.
