ISLAMABAD: The government and the opposition Friday exchanged barbs in the National Assembly over the issue of Khokhar Palace and in the Senate over the performance of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The members of the PML-N lodged protest in the National Assembly after Speaker Asad Qaisar reserved his ruling on a privilege motion sought to be moved on Malik Afzal Khokhar against retrieval of state land allegedly occupied by the parliamentarian in Lahore.
The PML-N members gathered in front of the speaker’s dais after he announced reserving his ruling on admitting the privilege motion to refer it to the Privilege Committee. The situation forced the speaker to adjourn proceedings till Monday afternoon.

ISLAMABAD: The government in the Senate Monday welcomed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s demand that the Broadsheet issue should be referred to the Committee of the Whole.
The government also offered dialogue to the opposition on electoral reforms, National Accountability Bureau-related reforms, judicial reforms or any other suggested by the other side.
Advisor to the PM on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan offered dialogue while winding up debate on the ‘rigged GB elections and the loans’.
He clarified that some TV channels were speculating that a certain political party was to be banned in relation to foreign funding. Leader of Opposition Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq charged that the GB election was even worse than 2018 general election.

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan told the Senate Friday that the federal cabinet had suggested Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit Quetta and he would go there anytime.
Winding up discussion on the opposition’s agenda item of unprecedented crackdown on political workers, the minister contended that the opposition might talk in Parliament on civil differences or the civil-military imbalance but why to talk like ‘cutting down necks of soldiers and generals’.
Some opposition leaders asked as to why the foreign funding case had made no progress despite passage of six years.

ISLAMABAD: The Senate opposition Friday termed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) where no law applied, while the treasury asserted the opposition would not get NRO for their ill-gotten wealth come what may.
The opposition-requisitioned session’s first sitting was confined to paying tribute to late Senator Kalsoom Parveen.
Opposition Leader Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq presented the agenda and also opened the debate.
Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani presided over the eventful session.
