The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has written to the Maharashtra government asking to take over the Ambedkar Museum in London, to prevent foreign academics claiming to be Ambedkarites seeking control. The museum, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, was acquired for £3.2m by the Maharashtra government and opened to scholars and academicians. The central government plans to upgrade the museum and make it an autonomous unit, with a director from the Indian government in charge.
