The rock attached itself on the Perseverance s wheel in February and has since been transported more than 5.3 miles (8.5 km) aboard the rover, NASA has said.
The colour pictures were taken by the US space agency s Ingenuity helicopter and capture the landing equipment used during its arrival with the Perseverance rover in February last year.
The Ingenuity rotorcraft, which is just 18 inches tall, was originally designed to fly five times on Mars but has just completed its 21st trip across the Red Planet, the US space agency said.
Ingenuity, the first aircraft to operate from the surface of another world, is inching closer to its original airfield, where it ll await the arrival of the US space agency s newest rover, Perseverance.
The US space agency was forced to pause most of its robotic Mars missions for safety reasons when the planet moved behind the sun from Earth s perspective earlier this month.
