as you head closer you can see florence all of the way into the city of columbia and looking at the heaviest rain amounts and an hour past and we saw an inch per hour of rain there and we ll continue to see this in scattered amounts. when is this going to end? that is the big question, and we re almost at the end of the event and we re three-fourths away from the end. actually, we are going to see this move north now. the main band of the rain move through myrtle beach and we saw problems there today and we ll see that re-strengthen tonight and pull back. we ll take away the garden hose of water to move back along the coast and become a little bit more scattered throughout your monday. so monday we ll still see some rain, but it will be more scattered and it won t be the direct impact that we saw for the direct couple of days and columbia, charleston and i want to take a quick look to show you that we have at least ten inches and 12 inches of rain in the heavier sports and that was in
here, shana, this was made by sarah dallof and the water table and there s concern of contamination and you have high water levels that gets into either the groundwater table or gets into the because you have the overflowing dams and rivers. contaminated. yes, exactly. so when will the flooding stop? because we still have, it looks like some time, if not days of rain hitting these areas. we have another day where we will see the heavy amount of rain, but then after that we continue to watch the flooding recede slowly and streets could receive as slow as 24 hour, but it does take some time if those homes inundated with rain up to the brim. and that could be weeks to months and i was in colorado in 2013 in boulder and it took a long time for that water to recede, at least a few weeks and we will be looking at issues even after the rain stops and one of the problems again is along the coast. the coastal impacts, we re seeing that onshore flow very
strong into areas like atlantic city new jersey, delmarva coastline down to the carolina coast and this will be your coastal flood warning and we ll see millions of dollars in damages to our beaches and dunes today and tomorrow. the high tide comes at 1:00 in the morning. as for the rain we re still seeing the heavy bands and yesterday it was in charleston and today it moved up north and the access of this hose of water has moved into myrtle beach and slammed the coastline into columbia and inland and we will continue to see this tonight and it isn t as much as we ve seen in the peak of rain and there s nowhere for that rain to go when this rain moves in once again and i want to put the futurecast in motion and i want to show you now through 12:00 midnight and we have heavy rain into georgetown where we ve seen at least four feet of rain on the ground and a lot of rain already and that will move back up into myrtle beach by 8:00 tomorrow.
after days of unprecedented rains. those rains haven t given up which means the flooding will continue even after the rain stops. we ll take yah back to the carolinas in just a few minutes and first we want to get to this story we re watching on msnbc. roseburg, oregon, it s the first sunday where that community is now having to remember and look back to thursday. remembering the nine people killed when the gunman opened fire on the campus of umpqua community college on thursday. a town barely over 21,000 people, no one has been left untouched certainly by this tragedy. those nine victims you see here who lost their lives, many of which were very, very young just starting their lives. i like to bring in po kim murray, someone who knows what that roseburg community is going through. she s a resident of newtown, connecticut, and a co-founder of the newtown action alliance. po, as you look at this and you know that first sunday because you remember that first sunday
heavy amounts and anywhere between five, ten inches of rain, georgetown and orangeburg in the heavier spots once again. again, this has been a historic flood and we ll continue to see some flooding for the next couple of days and most of the carolinas still under that flash flood watch and watch charleston as they ve seen 6 to 12 inches of rain in the next 12 hours and looking less as we head into your monday and we ll continue to watch those amounts and have the updates for you. thank you so much and we re talking at myrtle beach and the coastline being eroded and more of that, it s moving ten, 12 feet and it s going deeper, lower and as low as three to four feet. we will continue to watch what is happening right now because the concern about flooding, just because the storms and the rain starts falling out of the sky doesn t mean it starts to go away because as you know, the storm always happens after the storm goes away. we ll be right back.
