to ten in isolated amounts, wolf. this is far from over. we are still going to see a lot of wind and rain inland. yeah, it is moving quickly. jennifer gray, thank you very much. cnn s brooke baldwin is along the florida gulf coast for us in destin, florida. you know, as we see the storm pass, the conditions were unfolding, you have been there all day. tell us what you are seeing first of all right now. reporter: yeah, you know, i ve been here all day and i will say, wolf, i m surprised the wind is still pretty strong where we are. we walked for you all the way to the edge of this dock. i m, you know, in front of this massive structure to hopefully keep us safer as it is still quite windy out here. you can see earlier it had really kicked up quite a bit. you still can see the white caps. and if i just get down a little bit below this dock, the water is lipping up to the dock s edge. so it is still coming through. the good news though here in destin, i mean look at this beautiful s
rain. that is going to be a huge concern not only that, but with a storm this powerful, you are going to have all that storm surge pushing inland and all the water coming up up the rivers and cause extreme flooding not only along the coast, but inland as well. as the storm stalls out, we could see 10 to 20 inches of rain inland. this pink color is well west of charlotte and could see 10 to 20 inches of rain. charlotte could see 6-10 and this could change a little bit. 6-10 doesn t mean that is what you will see. you could see more by the time we get to it. here s the storm surge height. 6 to 12 foot from st. moorehead city to coastal areas around wilmington. 5 to 8 in northern sections. two to four as far south as charleston. this is a monster. it s not something people should sit out. it s not something you want to ride out. this will be extremely serious.
as possible regarding utility service, water services, roads, transportation, and anything else that needs to be repaired or fixed within a very short period of time. but again, our main issue is the health and safety of our citizens and those people who are visiting north carolina. right now, hurricane arthur is approximately 200 miles south of wilmington. the rain and wind effects are expected to start being felt in the wilmington area early afternoon with the outer bands of the storm expected to reach the outer banks by mid-afternoon. the storm is expected to bring as much as 5 inches of rain to the outer banks. and less than 1 inch to 3 inches of rain inland. overwash is expected on a very, very fragile road and that s nc highway 12 if any of you have been there. literally outside highway 12, you literally may have 5 to 10 yards of space between water on both sides. so, of course, we re very
