KUALA
LUMPUR: The founders of Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd have filed a RM150 million defamation suit against Facebook account owner Zaharin Mohd Yasin, also known as Sang Kelembai, who had allegedly accused the company of being involved in the import of non-halal meat issue.
Rahman Sheikh Abdullah, 45, and his wife Raihanah Kasim, 43, who are the directors of Raihanah Cold Storage, and the company, as the first to third plaintiffs, filed the suit through Messrs J.S. Pillay and Mohd Haaziq in the High Court here on Jan 27, and named Abd Zarin Mohd Yasin, who is also known as Zaharin Mohd Yasin, 69, a blogger, as the sole defendant.
Several months ago, Hunter made many serious allegations
about corruption in the halal meat business, but ministers and Jakim officials denied wrongdoing. In November 2020, the NST exposed the tainted meat scandal, with more allegations about officials being paid off and the complicity of many people in government departments. Will there be more cover ups or will the authorities finally act on these allegations?
Real beef, or kangaroo and diseased meat being sold as beef? Halal or merely labelled as halal?
Corrupt bureaucrats and industry collaborators have compromised halal integrity for more than 270 million Muslim consumers across Asia and around the world who are eating meat that has been falsely certified as having been butchered in compliance with religious standards. Authorities in at least three countries are seemingly too timid to take on powerful religious authorities, and their superiors in supreme religious councils have also looked the other way.
