SOME 21 acts of vandalism to historic sites across Ireland were reported to the Office of Public Works last year almost double 2019’s figure.
Ancient burial tombs, The Hill of Tara and Trim Castle were among the sites damaged in 2020, with repair costs totalling at least €12,500.

Ten more incidents of vandalism were reported to the OPW last year compared to 2019, details released under Freedom of Information show.
The most expensive damage caused last year was to the Carrowmore Megalithic Tombs in Tobernaveen, Co Sligo.
