UHâs Rado Parapunov named 2021 AVCA National Player of the Year

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawaii menâs volleyball senior opposite Rado Parapunov was named as the 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Year Wednesday morning â becoming only the third âBow to win the award in program history.
The Bulgaria native will go down as one of the most decorated Rainbow Warrior ever, joining only two other players to win the accolade, with Yuval Katz (co-Player of the Year 1996) and Costas Theocharidis who won the award in 2002 and 2003 â the last time a âBow won the award.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The No. 1 ranked Rainbow Warriors volleyball team landed in Columbus, Ohio Monday morning for the NCAA Tournament with news that five âBows landed on NVA/AVCA All-America teams.
The five include seniors Patrick Gasman, Rado Parapunov, Gage Worsley, Colton Cowell and sophomore Jakob Thelle.
Gasman, Parapunov and Worsley were all named to the first-team, while Cowell earned second-team honors and Thelle garnering honorable mention.
For the second consecutive year of competition, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa senior opposite
Rado Parapunov was named the Big West Conference’s Player of the Year for 2021 as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Parapunov was also player of the year for 2019. There was no award in the canceled 2020 season.
One week after he was selected first-team all-conference for the third time, Parapunov became the Big West’s first repeat winner. In addition, he is just the second UH player to win two conference player of the year awards joining
Costas Theocharidis, who was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s honoree in 2001 and 2003.
