Just when I hoped that maybe, with a new administration and continuing pandemic, Hollywood might be a little less self-aggrandizing and political this year, the Golden Globes went and burst my naïve bubble.
On Tuesday, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced that Jane Fonda will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Sunday, February 28.
In layman’s terms, that means “Hanoi Jane” will be fawned over for her left-wing activism by fellow lefties and given the chance to lecture a world-wide audience for several minutes, with a couple nods to her career in the entertainment industry thrown in for good measure. At least, that’s what I’ve gathered based on my knowledge of awards shows and this statement from HFPA:

Today is the federal holiday that honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was born January 15, 1929. He was assassinated April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was just 39 years old. While Dr. King is primarily remembered as a civil rights leader, he also championed the cause of the poor and organized the Poor People’s Campaign to address issues of economic justice. Dr. King was also a fierce critic of U.S. foreign policy and the Vietnam War. We play his “Beyond Vietnam” speech, which he delivered at New York City’s Riverside Church on April 4, 1967, as well as his last speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” that he gave on April 3, 1968, the night before he was assassinated.
america s muscle. i thought it would henry kissinger sa greed that was the case. the b-52s got out and no planes shot down. good. did they hit anything? radio hanoi has been off the air for ten hours. and that is bound to create havoc out there. the administration contends that the raids are not bombing. the shift in the b-52s would indicate that the raids about v. been designed for psychological as well as military gain. the american people need some explanation of why it is we re continuing to bomb and that it isn t simply an exercise in trying to decimate a country.
