CRA to measure radio listening habits over summer period Radio ratings surveys may be on a summer break until January 17, but the industry will still keep an eye on how consumers are using the medium over the period. Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has commissioned GfK – which also conducts the regular ratings surveys – to undertake a summer listening survey, the fourth of its kind. The survey will cover consumers in both metropolitan and regional Australia and look into how and why audiences stay connected over the warmer months. “Radio plays an important role over summer and with the need to stay abreast of the bushfire season and COVID news, it will be useful to see how media habits change as the new year gets underway,” said CRA chief executive officer Joan Warner.

Zac de Silva wins 2020 Brian White Scholarship Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has revealed Zac de Silva is the recipient of 2020’s Brian White Scholarship. The prize includes four two-week paid internships across NOVA Entertainment, Nine Radio, Australian Radio Network (ARN) and Southern Cross Austereo (SCA). de Silva was selected from a pool of 12 finalists from six universities, following a workshop with leading radio news directors. COVID forced the workshop to move online this year, and finalists took part in a series of newsroom exercises including recording a live cross about a current news event. He has apportioned some of the blame to advocates and media outlets, and accused the ABC and The Guardian of encouraging asylum seekers not to resettle in PNG. The Federal Government has struck a deal with Papua New Guinea to close the Manus Island detention centre, but is yet to provide a timeframe for the centre to be shut down.
