A Lion Air Boeing 737-900ER suffered a runway excursion after landing during a heavy rainstorm at Lampung airport.
The jet, registered PK-LGP, arrived from Batam’s Hang Nadim international airport at 14:45 local time, and veered off the runway after turning towards the airport’s parking bay.

When you crank the tiller too fast and the nose wheels get to about the 75 degree mark or more the aircraft tends not to turn but go straight ahead. Especially if you bring in too much thrust too early in the turn? Watched a L-1011 taxi in quite fast when the captain cranked the tiller hard right and the bloody aircraft continued straight ahead for about 30’ scrubbing the nose wheels all the way and on dry pavement. Wet would be like a skating rink!

Dec. 20 JAKARTA A Lion Air passenger plane skidded off a runway after landing at Radin Inten airport in Lampung on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, local media reported on Sunday.
“All passengers and crew members are safe. They have been evacuated to the airport’s terminal,” Lion Air spokesman Danang Mandala Prihantoro was quoted as saying.
He added that the plane Boeing 737-900ER was travelling at low speed after it had landed and was turning towards the apron when it skidded off the runway.
The plane had flown in from Batam in Sumatra’sRiau Island province and was flying to Tanjung Karang, Lampung. Seven crew members and 125 passengers were on board when it landed during heavy rain, although visibility levels were considered suitable under airline landing requirements.
