South Korea's president gets royal welcome on UK state visit before talks on trade and technology

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was greeted by Britain's King Charles III and a military honor guard on Tuesday at the start of a state visit aimed at strengthening trade and defense ties between the two countries. The king and Queen Camilla greeted Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee at Horse Guards Parade, a military parade ground in central London. Heir to the throne Prince William and government ministers also attended the welcome ceremony, where the king and president inspected rows of soldiers from the Scots Guards in grey tunics and bearskin hats.

South Korea's president to talk trade, technology and defense on state visit to the UK

The leaders of Britain and South Korea will seek to strengthen trade and defense ties between their countries during a state visit to the U.K. by President Yoon Suk Yeol. Yoon landed at Stansted Airport near London on Monday. Britain hopes his formal three-day visit will help cement an “ Indo-Pacific tilt ” in its foreign and trade policy.

US, Indo-Pacific partners need to 'recalibrate' trade talks next year -USTR's Bianchi

The U.S. and its Indo-Pacific Economic Framework partners need to regroup and "recalibrate" their trade pillar negotiations early next year after three negotiating rounds in the past two months fell short of substantial agreements, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi told Reuters on Thursday. Bianchi said in an interview that USTR will announce that progress had been made on the language of IPEF trade chapters, but that work will continue. "We’ve got to recalibrate in the new year with our partners," Bianchi said on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco.
