Talk about the genesis of this podcast, why the New York Times decided to go this route. Daily was born out of the question of trying to understand this moment. It launched in february of 2017 out of a feeling that maybe has journalists we had not understood the country, so to create a product that would explore the country and explore the expertise of our reporters, to really understand this moment. The show relies on New York Times journalists to help us understand the news of the day, to go deep and understand the context behind the headlines. That is the genesis of it. In el paso and dayton. The shootings left at least 31 people dead and injured about 50 more. President trump and at the first lady are scheduled to both cities, to meet with people impacted by the shootings. [sirens] [indiscernible] thank you. Excuse me. What is your reaction to lawmakers in dayton and el paso who think President Trump is not welcome because of his rhetoric . The president is the president of all the people and what he wants to do is go to these communities and grieve with them, pray with them and offer condolences. And quite frankly, offer thank you and appreciation to those who are First Responders and put their lives on the line and were able to take out the shooter so quickly. Those citizens who put their bodies in harms way to protect loved ones. And he also wants to talk about potential solutions on how we can keep this from happening again.
