The municipal borough of Sefton was formed in 1974, and its existence has been the subject of plenty of controversy ever since. Former Sefton Council leader and local blogger Tony Robertson says Sefton is “geographically bizarre” and that many people resent being taken out of Lancashire all those years ago. Spanning from Southport in the north, down to Formby, Maghull, Crosby, and south to Bootle, the area is a mix of seaside and coastline, farmland, industry, villages, and close-knit communities.
