TRIBUTES have flooded in for a former Sellafield police officer who has died after contracting Covid-19. Police Constable Abbas Ahmed, 40, who worked at the Sellafield site with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary before moving to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), passed away on January 21. He leaves a wife and two small children. PC Ahmed joined the Civil Nuclear Police unit at Sellafield in 2012 but left in March 2017 to join the GMP force. Cumbria Police Federation – representing rank and file officers across the county – broke the news locally of his loss yesterday, sending condolences to the officer’s family. Gary Thwaite, chief executive of the Civil Nuclear Police Federation, said: “This is devastating news.
