Downtown Lexington clothing boutique closes; Fewer tax prep locations and more

Lexington clothing boutique, Copper Lane on Main, has closed its doors for good. Misty McMillion, who opened the store above Textür Salon & Wellness Spa at 113 N. Main St. in September 2020, said the store closed on Dec. 24, a few days shy of its four-month anniversary.  McMillion, who opened her first women s clothing store in Welcome in May 2020, said several reasons played into the closing of the Lexington location. Business never took off like her Welcome location, she said. One, we opened in the middle of a pandemic, she continued. Then everything with the Confederate monument happening in downtown. People were not coming to downtown to shop for months with the protests going on every day. Then so many big events were canceled because of COVID, where I could have gotten word out about the store... And so many people who usually work from offices in downtown are not doing that now. That all hurt businesses.
