In a surprise move, the Stanton City Commission voted to hire the city clerk as the new city manager, declining to interview any candidates despite having already paid nearly $10,000 to a search firm to assist with the hiring process. The City Commission was slated to choose which candidates to interview during a special meeting on Saturday, but they instead voted 4-2 to hire City Clerk Rachael Coffey as city manager and to pay her an annual salary of $75,000.
