klobuchar. our entire political team right here in new hampshire tonight. it s going to be a very important night for the democrats as this race moves forward. we ll bring you the results as they come in, live coverage right here on abc and abc news live, right into the night. but we do move on tonight, as we re on the air in the west, breaking news involving president trump, as well. a stunning reversal in the sentencing recommendation for trump confidant roger stone. prosecutors had recommended seven to nine years for stone s seven-count conviction in the mueller investigation. but just 24 hours later, and after criticism from president trump, the department of justice called that sentencing request, quote, extreme and excessive. tonight, four federal prosecutors have now withdrawn from the case, amid questions, who was involved in this sudden shift? here s our chief justice correspondent pierre thomas. reporter: tonight, at least four prosecutors stepping down from the roger sto
decide after march 9th. it is interesting with him, because the other thing that you hear about him is he will spend whatever it tab it takes to win. but he has to mow there is a path to victory. if he thinks he can t control his own zi destiny, does he s i m not betting on my money on somebody else costing me the senate race, that being donald trump. that is how we think. he might think differently. right now if you look at polls and for last few months, it is static. he is neck and neck with bill nelson. and it will be the whole time. there is no way this race moves. and these polls not to get into crazy unskewing but the polls have slightly higher democratic examples and florida midterm after midterm, republicans overperform. what is interesting here for scott is that he s in a unique situation. you talked about this the first two races. 2010 and 2014 were republican years and he barely won.
issue. you know, when it comes up, well, he says he was born in america. you know, that s what it says on the birth certificate, but we re really not sure. absence of republican leadership on this issue, they take the same tone when they are trying to endorse or not endorse mitt romney. it s very lukewarm. it vacillates between what they really think and what they re trying to say politically. the bottom line is, we can t allow the right the ways to dictate the way the discourse around race moves forward. we ve got to be more constructive. in a year of davis and martin, we can t let the folks on the right distract us with these crazy ideas about even to mention race or try some of these serious issues means we re race-baiting. we re trying to make progress. are we making progress? we look at the laws being passed in this country. we see the polling numbers that are out there.
