Chloe Moriondo is Generation Z’s new punk paramour
Singer-songwriter Chloe Moriondo talks to GAY TIMES about making music, kickstarting a new era, and her emo label debut album, Blood Bunny.

Chloe Moriondo is from a new age of singer-songwriters. She made her debut as a ukulele-playing YouTuber in her early teens. Before going on to release her first ‘accidental’ album, (Moriondo thought she was making an EP but made it about 5 tracks too long) Rabbit Hearted, at just 14 years-old. Now just four years on, the rising icon and of course, TikTok star, has released a punchier pop punk-centric album to much critical acclaim. Titled Blood Bunny, Moriondo’s 13 tracks balance touching lyricism with headbanging instrumentals.
Vocalist and guitarist for the band, Alice Johnson, described the song as being “based on the negative impact toxic people have on your mental health and the moment you realise how toxic they are,” which can be seen in the track’s lyrics that centre around letting go of someone.
Comparable to bands such as Wolf Alice or The Night Café, swim school have gained the attention of the Scottish indie scene, having played hometown shows at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and TRNMT, as well as supporting alternative band The Xcerts on their UK tour. With the strong single

For a person who just graduated high school, booked a headline tour and released their first major-label debut all in the same year,
chloe moriondo is admirably calm. “I’m just chilling!” she says, confessing that she got out of bed at noon: “I’m a little gremlin,” she smiles. She’s rocking a new look that she teased on the first track of her new full-length,
Blood Bunny, “Rly Don’t Care,” singing: “I think I’m gonna shave my head soon/I don’t think anyone would be surprised.” True to her word, her head is freshly shaved and bleached, and she’s thrilled to be able to run her hands over her “little kiwi head.” Sitting in her childhood bedroom wearing an oversized cardigan and unnaturally long false eyelashes, moriondo has an easy air despite her mounting success.
