Poor snow conditions in December, combined with the global recession, have made it very challenging to raise funds and sponsorships, the Rabbi wrote. As soon as we find a way to continue the programs Whistler became dependant and accustomed to over the past two years, we will continue our commitment to the Whistler community and visitors.
Rabbi Shapiro said the most recent wintertime events in Whistler, including Chanukah and Winter Shabbatons, were hugely successful. The world s first snow sculpture menorah, which drew some 1,000 Jewish followers to the lighting ceremony and photo sessions to the site outside the Roundhouse on Whistler Mountain, also enjoyed success, he said.
