Staunton Habitat for Humanity ReStore relocating, giving away items from fire
STAUNTON Nearly five months after a fire ravaged the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and offices, workers are clearing out the space and you can pick up whatever is left there for free.
According to Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Lance Barton, the general public was welcome to pick through items Saturday, March 6. After that, they will go to the landfill.
The items inside aren t significantly damaged, Barton said. Much of it just has smoke damage, but the items are usable with some elbow grease.
Last week, Barton said they were given the go-ahead to start giving away items half the store has been liquidated to other nonprofits. Barton said their insurance company isn t allowing them to sell the items, instead they are giving them away to avoid putting them in the landfill.
