The dictionary says ‘on the q.t.’ means a secret or quiet way. Quinten Taylor loudly announced his presence at Casper College’s spring rodeo. The Canadian won all-around cowboy honors and did it at the rough-stock end finishing first in both saddle bronc and bull riding. He carded 340 points for his T-Birds which was more than several Central Rocky Mountain Region teams totaled over the weekend. Taylor went so far as to not settle for his first bronc riding low score in the championship round Sunday when offered a re-ride he jumped at the chance to go a second time. Taylor was the only guy to cover two bulls over the weekend and entered the Ropin & Riggin Days Rodeo ranked 3rd in the Central Rocky Mountain Region in that event. He was also 3rd in the saddle bronc and the top 3 finishers in the region will qualify for the College National Finals that will be in Casper in June. He had quite a weekend and had a lot to be proud of.
A long-standing Casper tradition will renew itself this weekend as Casper College will host the 65th annual Ropin and Riggin Days rodeo at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds. This event was not held last year due to the pandemic; in fact, the entire spring season in the Central Rocky Mountain Region was a scratch as well as the College National Finals Rodeo.
But the CNFR is a go this year and the top 2 teams and top 3 individuals from the region will qualify for nationals. In the men s team standings, the University of Wyoming is running first with Gillette College 2nd and Casper College 3rd. There are three rodeos remaining in the spring season and UW has been strong this year with Donny Proffit leading the bareback, Garret Uptain on top of the saddle bronc standings, Chadron Coffield leading the tie-down roping with JC Flake, and Jase Staudt leading the team roping. Casper College Rodeo Teams Turn in Strong Efforts in Torrington
The college rodeo season rolled through Torrington last week and the Casper College teams enjoyed some success in that event. On the men s side, T-Bird cowboy Quinten Taylor took 1st in the building with a 77 in the 2nd go-round to finish with 148 on 2. The Nanton, Alberta native also took 6th in the saddle bronc.
Jack Skavdahl, who hails from Harrison, Nebraska took the top honors in the saddle bronc with 143 on 2. His teammates, Clayton Atkinson and Ben Kukowski placed 4th and 5th in that event respectively. Team ropers Carson and Kellan Johnson took 1st in Torrington and that pair is currently ranked 9th in the country.
