Sourcegraph cofounder Quinn Slack said one key strategy helped the small startup hook big customers like Uber and Amazon in its early days.
Instead of selling a cloud-based product, the company had its customers self-host the software, meaning that they would host it on their own servers or through whatever cloud platform they were using. This helped Sourcegraph save money and win trust, Slack said.
It recently raised a $50 million round of funding led by Sequoia Capital as it continues to serve big-name companies like Amazon, Uber, and Yelp.
