State Supreme Court declines to hear Thibodaux Mardi Gras shooting case
The Louisiana Supreme Court has denied to hear a case for a man convicted of shooting someone during a Thibodaux Mardi Gras parade in 2016.
Ryan Harris, 25, of Napoleonville, was convicted Aug. 17, 2017, of attempted second-degree murder, carrying a firearm while committing an act of violence, unlawful use of body armor and possession of stolen firearms. He was then sentenced to 11 years behind bars.
The 1st Circuit Court of Appeal in Baton Rouge upheld Harris’ attempted murder and weapons convictions on Sept. 8. However, it overturned the body-armor conviction because it resulted from a divided jury verdict.
