May 10 A North Carolina woman says she couldn t help but start dancing around her living room in the middle of the night after discovering she was holding a winning lottery ticket.
Daphne Deberry of Asheboro got the ticket the day before, but didn t bother scratching off the numbers until 1:30 in the morning, according to a release from the N.C. Education Lottery.
Her prize was $200,000, officials said.
With the rest of the world asleep, the certified nursing assistant celebrated alone, including talking to herself.

Health care workers have faced many challenges over the last year, from surviving a pandemic to providing treatment and care to those who were affect, so it was a welcome surprise for one woman in North Carolina who recently scored a big lottery win, thanks to a new state game.
Daphne Deberry is a certified nursing assistant who lives in Asheboro. According to
WXII, she also holds the title of the first person to win the top prize of the new North Carolina Education Lottery 7 game. I still can t believe it, said Deberry. I feel good.
Restrictions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays and exacerbated court backlogs this year, but defendants in several major 2019 cases were sentenced.
The pandemic public health measures caused a huge backlog in criminal and civil cases in district and superior courts.
In March, the court system suspended trials but criminal hearings continued with new safety precautions. More than two months later, Superior Court began holding live-streamed virtual court.
Over the summer, staff transformed portions of the Cowlitz County Event Center into courtrooms large enough to hold socially-distanced jury trials.
The first criminal trial held since March was held Sept. 23. Everyone wore face masks, jurors sat six feet apart and plexiglass surrounded the witness stand and separated the prosecution and defense.
