Published April 20, 2021, 10:00 AM Aside from battling the existing health crisis, millions of Filipinos continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity caused by increasing food prices and unemployment rates. Despite all the hardships brought about by the pandemic, Filipinos do not forget to spread acts of kindness. The latest example of this are the community pantries that have popped up all over the country on the weekend of April 17-18. “Mula sa masa, tungo sa masa (From the people, to the people),” reads the post of Ana Patricia Non, the woman who organized the first Community Pantry in 96 Maginhawa St., Diliman, Quezon City.

Want to donate fish to community pantries? DA is ready to help you

Published April 20, 2021, 5:05 PM It may be a good idea to put fish on those trending community pantry tables, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Tuesday, April 20. A total of 50 kilograms of tilapia fishes from Rizal fisherfolk were donated to Quezon City Community Pantry. (Photo from PAMALAKAYA / FILE PHOTO) According to the DA, the stabilization of fish supply and prices in the metropolis should allow Filipinos to purchase fish in bulk and then share it to others via the community food drive. “They can go to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and buy in bulk the fishery supply and we can help them bring it to those areas. The logistics, we will cover,” said Undersecretary for Agri-Industrialization and Fisheries Cheryl Marie Caballero during a press briefing.
