KARACHI: Favourite bay horse Choice Of The Day lifted the July Cup as turf accountants dominated a five-race card during the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Having placed second in last three outings, Choice Of The Day made amends by justifying his billing to give race-goers some respite on a day of upsets as he galloped home by three lengths over chestnut horse Albania to clinch the cup.
Owned by Mohammad Rehan and sent by trainer Mohammad Sharif, Choice Of The Day was ably ridden by rider Riaz Ahmed.
Mare Recovery, who won the last race, had to be content with third place after being edged by short head followed by Faster Than You among seven starters as New Class was scratched in the morning declaration.
KARACHI: Eight horses will make their presence felt in the July Cup when it takes place in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Classified under scale order IV and V, the race will go over four furlongs and it is fourth in racing order.
Another half-a-dozen horses are pitted against each other in the next race which is also the day’s feature event and classified under combined scale order of I, II and III. It will also be run over four furlongs.
Seven horses apiece will vie for honours in the first two races of lower classifications while nine horses are in contention in the third race.
The debutants who belonged to Lahore are seven-year-old bay horse Smasher and unknown pedigree bay horse Jackson.
The Attitude Cup, meanwhile, tops the action in the card.
Seven horses are in the run for the cup race that has been classified under scale order IV and V and go over four-and-a-half furlongs.
It is the third race and also the days feature event.
The fourth and concluding race which is the supporting event, scale order V, VI and VII will also, will be run over similar distance.
The first two races of smaller scales will take place over four furlongs.
