The crest condo review: Giant pool + bigger than usual units

Now that’s a slogan that befits The Crest in more ways than one. Before I go into greater detail on that however, allow me to first share a little more about our project today. The Crest is a 99-year leasehold condo built by Wing Tai Asia (TOP-ed 2018) with the aid of renown architect Toyo Ito (recipient of the esteemed Pritzker Prize back in 2013). To say that the towers at The Crest are of a unique structure would probably be a keen understatement. For those who frequent Alexandra Road, you’d likely recall three distinct towers with units extending outward at varying heights (somewhat resembling a blooming flower’s petals if you will).

Walkers back on Mainland

Mountain Scene By PHILIP CHANDLER After taking just over two months to traipse the North Island, intrepid Queenstown teachers Susan and Ken McIntyre on Wednesday started trekking the Mainland. Susan, 57, and Ken, 60, who’ve taught at Queenstown Primary and Wakatipu High, respectively, for the past 20 years, wagged school this term to walk the 3000km length-of-New Zealand Te Araroa Trail. ‘‘It’s been absolutely great,’’ says Ken, speaking from Wellington last week as the couple recuperated for a few days before tackling the top-of-the-South Island’s tough Richmond Range. Susan, in particular, needed rest for a bit of shin tendonitis. ‘‘You have this thing called ‘trail pain’, everyone gets it somewhere,’’ Ken says.

Doubles player's match

Mountain Scene By PHILIP CHANDLER It’s 2001, at Queenstown Primary, and there’s Georgia rown in the front row of a class photo, and Ben McLachlan in the second row. Fast-forward to last Sunday, at Waiheke Island’s Mudbrick Vineyard, and there’s tennis doubles pro McLachlan, 28, and ex-New Zealand under-20 football rep Brown, 27, smiling for the camera after the pair just got engaged. ‘‘It was the biggest win of 2020,’’ he quips, confirming his knee gave out in the process. ‘‘I wasn’t shocked but I was surprised,’’ Brown who doubles as McLachlan’s fitness trainer says. The couple have been together for two years ‘‘and wetalked for another year before that, over long distance’’.
