State drops Robinson campaign finance inquiry
The state is declining to file any charges against former Sarasota County School Board member Eric Robinson, who was the subject of an elections complaint last year in the final weeks of his failed reelection campaign.
George Thurlow, a self-described political activist from Clearwater, filed two complaints against Robinson. Thurlow alleged that Robinson had accepted money from a foreign corporation, but investigators concluded there was not evidence that Robinson knowingly did so.
Now that Robinson has been cleared, he is considering suing School Board member Tom Edwards, his opponent in the race.
According to financial statements, Edwards paid Thurlow $2,000 in August.
