Marriage is a cultural must for new Zulu king Misuzulu kaZwelithini

DURBAN - ZULU King Misuzulu kaZwelithini would be compelled by culture to get married before he could officially issue royal orders.
This is according to a culture and history expert, Jabulani Maphalala.
Unless extraordinary circumstances did not permit it, Zulu culture dictated that a king could only be recognised officially once he was married, said Maphalala, who is professor emeritus at the University of Zululand and current chairperson of the ad hoc panel considering the Vatsonga kingship claim.
University of KwaZulu-Natal senior lecturer Dr Gugu Mazibuko concurred, saying that if a king was not married it would be difficult for senior married elders to respect his orders.
Prince MisuZulu: Zulu King’s coronation announcement imminent
Prince MisuZulu was announced the new King of one of the continent’s biggest monarchies
Prince MisuZulu was named next in line to take the throne, by his mother, Queen Mantfombi in her will, which was read out publicly on Friday, 7 May 2021, just hours after her official provincial memorial service was held at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in KZN.
Queen Mantfombi had been appointed Regent to the Zulu nation by her late husband, King Goodwill Zwelithini in his will, following his passing back in March – tasking her with choosing the next leader of the monarchy.
This has been a week of loss and pain for the Zulu nation as we laid to rest our regent, Her Majesty Queen Shiyiwe Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu. Her Majesty’s passing, so soon after the loss of our monarch, His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, was a devastating blow.
While dealing with our compounded grief, the Zulu royal family has unfortunately had to contend with misinformation and accusations being made by certain members through the media. There’s more to this story Subscribe to News24 and get access to our
