A SCHEME to boost active travel in Kendal which is part of a multi-million-pound package of improvements has been completed. The Shared Access Improvement Scheme to renew and improve the footway on one of the main routes in the north of the town has involved 1.21km of footway widening on Shap Road and new cycle advisory signage being installed. A spokesman for Cumbria County Council (CCC) said the Shap Road footway widening - from north of Queen Katherine Avenue to Longpool - had created space for pedestrians, mobility scooter-users and cyclists . Cllr Peter Thornton, who represents the Kendal Strickland and Fell division and is deputy leader of the county council, said: “I warmly welcome the wider shared pathway at the north end of Kendal which is designed for pedestrians, mobility scooters, families with pushchairs and cyclists.
