When Lafayette native David Aloysius Koke, Jr., was asked by the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association to reign as Gabriel LXXXV, King of Carnival, for the 2024 Mardi Gras
Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) announced Tuesday that Public Works will begin placing barricades along the parade route on Thursday, February 1, at 8:00 a.m.
Lafayette, Louisiana is host to numerous Mardi Gras events, including parades, balls, a festival and more. The Lafayette Mardi Gras parades in 2024 feature numerous krewes and are organized by the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association. Krewes include the Krewe of Rio, Krewe of Bonaparte, Krewe of Gabriel, Krewe of Apollo and more. The festival is at Cajun Field in Lafayette.
The Saturday event showcases Acadian history, culture, music and traditions. Several of the planned entertainment includes the wooden boat procession along the Bayou, and the “Re-enactment of the Arrival of the Acadians” to St. Martinville on the Bayou Teche by representatives of the Blanchard and Vincent families.
