Joel Yanofsky, award-winning writer and teacher, dies at 65

Article content Joel Yanofsky, an award-winning author, literary journalist and teacher described by friend and former colleague Mark Abley as “the heart and soul of the English-language literary community in Montreal,” has died. The cause was cancer. He was 65. The Montreal native, who grew up in the Laval suburb of Chomedey, taught many writers and aspiring writers and journalists through the Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF), where he led writing workshops for more than 20 years, and at Concordia University.
