Government announces arrangements for designated flights from United Kingdom to Hong Kong and quarantine arrangements for arrivals from low-risk places
The Government announced today (April 1) the arrangements for designated flights from the United Kingdom (UK) to Hong Kong and the latest quarantine arrangements for arrivals from overseas low-risk specified places.
Due to the severe global epidemic situation of COVID-19, and to guard against the importation of new virus variants, the Government has put in place since late December last year the measure under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances and Travellers) Regulation (Cap. 599H) to restrict persons who had stayed in extremely high-risk Group A specified places from boarding flights for Hong Kong. The new wave of epidemic that began in late November appears to have reached its peak in mid-December. The measures strictly implemented by the Government to prevent the importation of cases and the spread of the virus in the community have gradually yielded results. Despite fluctuations, the number of daily confirmed cases has already shown a downward trend. That said, compared with the previous wave, the current wave of epidemic is subsiding at a notably slower rate. Whether there is an epidemiological reason for this remains to be determined by experts, but according to our observations, public awareness in complying with social distancing measures is obviously lower than before. Anti-epidemic fatigue is probably one of the reasons why the virus remains with us. I strongly urge citizens to stay at home to fight the epidemic, which in itself is an act to support the frontline anti-epidemic personnel.

Hong Kong: Quarantine hotel scheme smooth
The quarantine arrangement at the hotels under the Designated Quarantine Hotel Scheme has been smooth since its full implementation today, the Government said.
It has arranged for a dedicated team to inspect the designated hotels.
All 36 designated quarantine hotels must solely be receiving travellers arriving from foreign places for compulsory quarantine.
These hotels provide some 12,000 rooms of various prices and types.
They passed the inspection conducted by the Department of Health, the Electrical & Mechanical Services and the Buildings departments for ensuring their design, facilities and workflow fulfilled the infection control requirements.
To further reduce contact between people subject to quarantine and the local community, the Government has arranged all travellers to be accommodated at designated hotels to board the designated transport to proceed to their hotels, starting December 18.
