Reliving History - Part 6 the final land auction

Prior to Oklahoma entering statehood in 1907, a final land auction of surplus land used for pushing and grazing cattle previously occupied by Native Americans took place in 1906. This half-a-million acre stretch of Great Plains grassland was commonly known as the “Big Pasture.” Native American control of “Big Pasture” began with the Quapaw Tribe who then relinquished it to the United States government in 1818.
