FDA says more than 10,000 containers of ice cream recalled over metal
More than 10,000 containers of ice cream have been recalled in multiple US states over the risk of contamination, according to a recall recently highlighted by the FDA. The issue is the potential for small pieces of metal in the ice cream, with the recall noting that the metal pieces are from filling equipment parts.
The recall comes from Weis Markets, which notes that the ice cream was sold under the brand names Weis, Nelson’s, and Klein’s. Impacted products include 10,869 48oz containers of Weis brand ‘Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream.’ As well, the recall covers 502 three-gallon containers of Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream.

The Weis Quality brand Cookies and Cream Ice Cream was distributed to 197 Weis stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and West Virginia.

Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream, 48-ounce container, UPC number 41497-01253 and a sell by date of 10/28/21.
According to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the ice cream “may be contaminated with extraneous material, specifically metal filling equipment parts.
Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Recalled For Foreign Material
Weis Markets is recalling two types of ice cream because they may be contaminated with foreign material. The recalled product that was sold to consumers is 10,869 48 ounce containers of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. Three other ice cream products were made on the same day, but were not sold at the retail level and were not available to the public.
One customer found an intact ice of metal equipment in one carton. This can pose a choking and mouth injury hazard. The recall notice did not state whether or not any problems had been reported to the company to date.
