Human Services: Reducing staff turnover, out-of-home placement remain major goals for department

The average number of out-of-home placements per month was 50 in 2020. In 2019, the average was 69 and in 2018 it was 56. These are temporary stays for children that can include several months.

The vast services offered with Wadena County Human Services, and their costs, is information commissioners were thankful for on March 15.
The department is aiming for transparency and making data driven decisions, as Human Services director Jennifer Westrum said. Westrum started as director in April 2020.

Kentucky long-term care facilities recently won a landmark victory at the Kentucky Supreme Court protecting certain documents created by or at the request of the Quality Assurance Committee from disclosure in litigation. Prior to the issuance of this Opinion, there was a paucity of guidance in Kentucky whether quality assurance documents were privileged. In the unanimous decision, the Kentucky Supreme Court held the Federal Quality Assurance Privilege applies to malpractice litigation and protects Quality Assurance Committee documents from disclosure.
